I like cats. It’s not a big secret. Especially the Maine Coons. They have certain… regal quality to them. So I decided to pick this photo as an inspiration and put a spin on it.

Over the course of making a few portraits, I had realized that I was using the same few colors over and over again. I really wanted to break out of skin tones use all the pretty colors. So, I decided to drastically change my style from realism to explosion-of-color-ism. (Though, I think the technical term is impressionism.)

This was a constant struggle. I had come to rely too much on the hues instead of values. I routinely found myself trying to match the color instead of paying attention to the color values. Picking drastically different colors had a pleasant side effect on me. It helped me break out of that box and took me back to basics.
